„Theatre is also a building” is a project of the public institution Theatre Information Centre, presenting the most valuable and interesting Lithuanian theatre buildings from an architectural perspective and revealing the relationship between the fictional reality (the performance) and the urban reality (the city), which happens differently each time through a particular theatre building.
The project „Theatre is also a building” presents 9 theatre buildings from Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Panevėžys. The chosen form of storytelling is a virtual multimedia excursion, which allows you to immerse yourself in the building’s spaces and history through original texts written by the buildings’ curators, historical archives and drawings, contemporary photographs, graphic design drawn especially for the project, and videos created by the project team. The nine virtual walks through the theatres are complemented by three original texts.
The target audience of the project is theatre staff, theatre-goers, citizens and the general public interested in architecture, theatre, history, cities, as well as visitors to Lithuania, for whom all the project material is presented in English.
